Crypto Tax Calculator (US)
Estimate the US tax on selling crypto at a gain. Short-term gains (held one year or less) are taxed at your ordinary income rate. Long-term gains (held more than one year) get lower rates.
How it works
Gain = (sell price − buy price) × coins − fees. If you held for more than 365 days the gain is long-term, otherwise short-term, and the rate you choose is applied to any gain. Losses owe no tax here, though they can often offset other gains and a limited amount of other income.
Not included: the 3.8% net investment income tax, state rules beyond a flat rate you enter, multiple purchase lots, and income from mining, staking, or airdrops. Each sale, swap, or spend of crypto is generally a separate taxable event, and this tool handles one sale at a time. Rates shown are US federal rates for 2026.
